I am Curtis, a trauma therapist with over a decade of experience specializing in complex and childhood trauma (C-PTSD) with both adults and teens. Currently, I am only working with adults who are navigating the lasting impacts of PTSD or C-PTSD. I integrate various trauma-focused treatments such as EMDR therapy and somatic therapy.
For a long time, I tried to "outthink" my own traumatic experiences—something many trauma survivors can relate to, especially those who learned to rely on their intelligence as a way to cope. Our minds can be powerful tools for protection, but healing often requires us to reconnect with the parts of ourselves we had to distance from—our emotions, our bodies, and our nervous systems.
Through my own therapeutic journey, I learned how to feel safe enough to be present with those sensations and memories, within the context of a trusting therapeutic relationship. Trauma may happen in relationships, but also healing happens in relationships Time alone does not heal trauma.
I can certainly share the research and success stories around EMDR and somatic therapy, but equally as important, is what I have learned from my own lived experience. I know what it feels like to be on the other side of the therapeutic space, as a client.
That is why supporting my clients with their healing journeys is more than a profession—it is something I care deeply about. I do not see myself as the expert of anyone’s life. My role is to walk alongside you: offering support and challenging in equal measure.
And to share a bit more personally, I love playing tennis, especially in competitive leagues. So, if we end up working together, do not be surprised if I use a tennis analogy (or two) to explain something about trauma.
Whether it is with me or someone else, I hope you give yourself the opportunity to explore therapy—or give it another try. Healing is possible.
No pressure or commitments involved. If you feel more comfortable or safer asking questions via email, go for it. (hi@traumawho.com if contact form does not work)
A weekly newsletter, where I write about the scientific research of trauma, C-PTSD and trauma-focused treatments such as EMDR therapy.
